NC Body electrical component differences between the FC4 and FC5

Hi All
As the poor soldering done in the 4 series is one of the reasons that the body electrics are problematic, are the electrical components of the 5 series improved? I was wondering as I thought I heard that they improved the soldering on the 5 series. If so, are 5 series electrical parts more reliable than the 4 series?
Thanks

I don't think I would say that. S5s can still have problems with the clock in the warning light cluster, switches, or the CPU. But the most hated electrical component is only found on S5s: the electric MOP (metering oil pump). S4s have a mechanical pump, which doesn't fail and throw the car into limp mode. It should also be noted that most S5 electronics cannot be swapped with S4 versions & vice versa. There are too many differences. Simple components like switches can be adapted.

The bad soldering was in the Idiot light cluster.
I've had a s4 for 6 years and it is good electrically.(1986 car)
The S5 is the car that seems unreliable as it goes into Limp mode if you Sneeze the wrong way.
Remember too that some of the parts are not "just plug and play".ie: the s5 cluster would need to be rewire to go on an s4.

Thanks for the replies

This is good info. Sounds that having an F4 was for the better at least for the oil pump.

I'd imagine the oil pump on an F4 phantom is pretty good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonne...F-4_Phantom_II. But I'm not sure it's fair to compare it to the MOP on S4 or S5 FCs.
