blown engine?

I am a new member. I have a 89 RX7 convertible with 91,000. miles on it. The car was only driven seasonally and therefore has sat all winters.
The car will start but within a few minutes the temp gauge peaks out on hot and
coolant is blown out the overflow cannister in the grill and comes out the radiator
cap. Also the "add coolant" light comes on even though there is adequate coolant.
Had local garage tell me that they thought the exhaust was blowing past the seals and blowing out the coolant. The oil is clear.

That does not sound good.

With a cold engine, remove the rad cap. Start the car and look into the coolant. Do you see a steady stream of bubbles from somewhere in the engine? Rev it by grabbing the throttle body lever. Do the bubbles increase, or does coolant gush out violently when you do so?

If the answers are yes, then you probably have a blown coolant seal/cracked iron.

IN Possible thermostat problem

Hi. I had a similar problem when I changed the coolant on my '84 GSL-SE. As I remember, it was the thermostat. Good luck.

Yeah, it sounds like your motor is done. If the coolant was shooting out the exhaust, you could try Alumaseal. But since it is going the other direction I doubt you would get any sealing action due to the pressure.

Good luck
