Can anyone tell me why you would remove the air pump and block it off with aluminum plates???

The air pump is for emissions and is used in combination with the catilitic converters. Since emissions do nothing to add power, and some can actually reduce power " egr" lots of people just remove all that stuff. It also reduces a little weight and cleans up the engine bay a ton. You can't do it if your state has emissions testing. Lucky my state does not.

although no one knows to what engine and year you are referring to but I don't believe the air pump has any direct connections with the engine that would require block off plates . Possibly you are referring to the omp (oil metering pump) , when deleting the omp and mixing 2 stroke oil with the gas instead of injecting into the rotor area it is usually removed from the engine and blocked off with a blocking plate . Or when deleting emissions the EGR valve removed would require A block off plate .Unless you are referring to a secondary part that the air pump might feed and was removed also .

To clarify, you don't need a block off plate FOR the air pump. You would need the block off plate for the air control valve that the air pump feeds. If I'm not mistaken the air control valve directs the air to the intake or the cats... Don't quote me on that. The info I provided is for my 88 turbo 2. What kind of car you have?

Thanks for the replies. the engine I'm referring to is a 13b n/a with all internals from a turbo 13b its also fuel injected. im looking at buying this 88fc so I thought I would ask some questions of the people that have been around rotary's about some of the work this guy has done, and again thanks for your answers.

Ok in short it sounds like the emissions have been removed . some states prohibit the removal of these components as the engine would fail emission tests and some states don't require emission tests . Just a thought but I would be checking into this before buying a car that might need to be reworked to pass tests. Not that it would be a big deal to replace these parts but you may need to .
