Blinker relay stupidity.
When I bought my 83, the seller told me I'd have to replace the blinker relay, so I went to the pick n pull and got one from a matching 7. Removal of the steering wheel and blinker/wiper relay was fairly smooth, as was removal of both on my car. . .
Where I'm having trouble is that when I've got the relay set in position, (when the little metal male end locks into the hole steering column) the grooves that the steering wheel matches up with are sort of buried in the plastic of the relay; I can't attach the wheel back on.
I've tried to get the old relay back on as well, but I can't get either to sit correctly. Nothing is broken on the relays that I can see, and nothing looks out of place on the backside of the relay.
I've read that the columns have crumple zones. I had to give a few good tugs to get the wheel off, but I can't imagine that I caused that thing to break with my bare hands. . .I'm not Chuck Norris over here. But that looms large in my mind as a potential problem.
Any advice?
