So the battery died and i got a new one at advanced autoparts . I install it and i try to start it up. When i turn the key, i loose all power and the engine doesnt even turn over. I turn it off and try again but i dont get any voltage until i take off and reconnect the leads. Its a 1980 with stock everything.

 

Clean all battery connections both at the battery and at the starter...
