Bad running over 1/4 throttle, smokes
OK, finally getting to post what I'm trying to figure out!
Have a 89 RX7 Convertible that starts ok, idles ok (fast about 3k then drops down), and drives ok at up-to 1/4 throttle.
Over 1/4 throttle this baby bucks and farts and totally loses it's guts. There was a code set that my mechanic friend checked out and said the oil metering pump is bad. The housing is visibly cracked, so I guess there's something to start with.
Trying to source a replacement OMP that I can afford. Ebay has a number of units, but not all are listed as for an 89.
So, brain-trust, can a defective OMP cause my symptoms, and where does one source a replacement OMP without bending over at the dealer?
Thanks! Jim

If the metering oil pump has failed, the car will go into limp mode to protect the engine.
You should be able to find a used replacement pump in the classifieds section of this forum. Any pump from an '89 to '92 2nd gen will do the job.

I've located a OMP on the 'bay and am hoping that solves the problem.
It seems there is a virulent debate on pre-mixing vs OMP. Guess I'll try to keep it stock as long as I can.
