when i get on the gas and get back off the gas it has started backfireing

Common problem, shows up more with aftermarket exhaust/emissions removal. Rotaries are known for throwing flames and shotgun backfires, some strive for this.

It can also be an indication of an exhaust leak, no cat, leading ignition failure or the afr's are off.

Mine does the same thing. I love when it flames at night. It scares the SH@# out of people....
