My vehicle's VIN shows up as an 83 GS, however, I have rear disc brakes. I thought only the GSL's had the rear disc brakes? At first I thought one of the previous owners had swapped in a GSL rearend, but the hubs were still 4 lug, so I assumed the GS rear was still in it. Also, when I dug deeper, I found this guy on the back of the diff, covered in layers of spray paint:


What happened here? Did he swap in a GSL rear, then cut and weld the GS hubs onto the ends of the axles? Also, the part that the caliper mounts to (spindle?) looks like its been welded on, but I can't tell if its supposed to look like that or not:


Whats going on back there? Can anyone tell me what I have equipped?

 

Gsl axle swapped in. There is no 5 lug 1st gen. Lucky you!
