just swap it out and put a 5spd in it. u'll have to find some pedals tho.

Transmission, flywheel, clutch pressure plate and disc, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, pilot bearing seal, clutch slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, clutch hard line and soft line, clutch pedal assembly, switches for clutch interlock, shifter, shift surround, transmission mount (need custom "spacers" too, I think), manual drive shaft. That is all that readily comes to mind. I think there are a couple things missing. I also think you have to do some miscellaneous wiring work as well.

Well, expensive is a relative term. Non-turbo parts are plentiful and cheap for the most part. So, I would say in the realm of things you can do to the RX-7 this is one of the cheaper ones. I think your greatest expense is if you decide to buy a new clutch instead of a used one. If you are really considering it, you can peruse the classified sections for people that are parting out manual cars and see what the prices on some of the items I mentioned are.

 

Find a donor car with a blown motor or something, maybe crashed. You can usually find one for a couple hundred bucks. That way, you'll have spare parts galore. You can even sell off some of the stuff you can't use right away, and get your money back for the purchase of the donor car.

 

my dad found a wrecked 88 just like mine with a 5=speed hes trading his old junk malibu for it and it has all i need plus much more so thank you all very much for all your help and knowledge

 

He tried to shift it like manual? He never noticed the lack of clutch pedal? Or the P,R,N,D?
The reason he couldn't get it into 1 could be that he didn't press the button on top of the gear lever...
