AST and Coolant filling question

The AST on the right side has a short plastic pipe/tube going down but not connecting to anything. Why is that?

While flushing my coolant system, I've drained around 5L (liters) and filled almost another 5 by the radiator cap. The level at the left side is still dry while the two plugs at the middle of the engine bay are at maximum. No heating problems, no light or buzz, just a dry level.

Is this common? What do you recommend me to do?

IIRC the stock AST has a locating pin...sort of a "short plastic pipe" that comes out the bottom and sits in a corresponding mounting ring. It's not hollow....it's solid piece of round plastic maybe 6-8 mm in diameter. Is that what your talking about?

If your not sure the system is full, try removing the FILLER cap, the cap on top of the thermostat housing. Fill it with coolant, replace the cap. Now reach down and quickly squeeze the upper radiator hose 3 or 4 times. Remove the cap and repeat until it won't take any more coolant. This is called 'burping' the system.

About the stock AST, it should be that yes. #4 on the image. I also saw the FSM and although it shows the pipe, there is no reference about what it does.

When filling the coolant system I did the following,
a) put the liquid down through the plug next to the engine (2) and the one on top of the radiator (3);
b) turn the car on for two minutes without the plug caps placed to purge some air and old coolant;
c) with the car off filled again on both plugs to the top, let it go down, re-fill again.

Yesterday I decided to add more coolant through the two plugs where the radiator one was almost full and the one next to the engine was visible.

The dipstick (1) is still dry.

Should I fill by the dipstick plug or what is the best way to do now?

#4 is simply a vent hose. It runs down and under the stock airbox and is left open. The stock blow-off valve empties into the airbox and that hose is just to relieve pressure. Normal.

#1 is the coolant overflow. Fill it with coolant to the middle of the dip-stick and leave it.

Fill #3, replace the cap and leave it. Using #2, do what I described in my first post to fill the system with coolant.
