ANother idle issue

Okay so just recently picked up a 94 rx7 noticed the idle on this car is roughly 1200-1500 rpms after warmup upon starting the car it will shoot up to 2000 idle there for a bit then settle to 1200-1500 the car drives fine no bucking no hesitation that i have noticed the only thing done to this car is a downpipe back exhaust and the PO re did the rats nest with silicon vacuum lines. Iv sprayed starter fluid around the engine to see if i could get the engine to change and find a vaccum leak but I didn't locate any. I have a new fuel filter coming wires and i have already changed the plugs. while it idles that high there is a random poping from the exhaust but i believe thats just the way the rotary is?? There is sooo much information on this sight and iv been reading some much the past few days i close my eyes and see these forums haha. I also just recently downloaded service manuals just wondering if some of you guys could point me in the right direction thanks.

i would start with the throttle body, its very common that they can sometimes stick open slightly which causes high idle....also check the throttle position sensor is in spec....google Fd3s tps adjustment and there's fantastic links out there on the process. Could be as simple as the adjustment screen on the tb also....

if you cant detect any vacuums leaks then the throttle body is the best place to start. Work on that and let us know how you get on.

Just want to say thank you guys. I checked the voltage on the TPS and it was off slightly so I went ahead and lossed the bolts and adjusted the TPS per factory service manual specs and it dropped my idle to about 800-900 a hell of alot better than it was. So then I adjusted the idle screw under the elbow a tad and it got me down to stock idle. Now I did notice that after letting off of the throttle my idle would stick a tad high until I would pull out on the gas pedal so I picked up a throttle cable swapped it out and i have zero idle issues now.

next time, don't adjust the air bleed screw to adjust the idle. there is an idle adjustment screw on the throttle body. the air bleed screw is the lazy way to adjust idle and not the proper one.

Okay After reading what you said I went back to try and adjust the throttle properly Because I want to do everything as right as I can on this car. I went to the factory service manual and and saw that is says to turn the Air adjustment screw in clockwise and if its not in specification then break the lock nut free on the throttle adjusting screw and turn that to adjust the idle to specification I did that yesterday and it seems that the idle is a lot better. Now if im understanding this wrong if someone could clarify a little more for me that would be great

that would be correct, then recheck the TPS after making the adjustment.

i prefer not to play with the idle air bleed screw too much because sometimes you will get an overshoot or idle hang issue if it is out of spec.
