Question Advice requested on an RX7 that hasnt been started in 7 years

Hi All,
Looking for several pieces of advice to help out my mother.

She bought her 3 Series RX7 brand new in Brisbane Australia in 1985 and used it as her comfort drive, she had another car as her everyday drive. As happens in life, her use of it waned to the point that the last time this car was driven was 2010. Since then it has been sitting in her garage.

She is now at the stage of life where she is going to have to downsize, and truth be known, she knows the RX7 is probably a little to much for her so it is time to find some one else to love it. I must admit I am a little (LOT) jealous as I would love to take it off her hands but I am just not in the position to do this at the moment.

So here is the situation.
An RX7 sitting in a garage that hasn't been used in 7 years. The 5 years previous to this it ranged from being driven a couple of 100Km every other weekend down to started and left idling for 10 to 15 minutes every other week with an occasional drive.

First step, to my thinking, is I raise it up and drain every fluid out of it ie: Fuel, Engine Oil, Gearbox Oil, Brake Fluid everything.

Next I replace all the fluids. Then the scary bit. I turn the key.

At that point I drive very carefully down to the tyre shop and get new rubber for it.

Any thoughts?

Second piece of advice.
Once it is up and running again. How much is it worth?

Vital stats:
1985 Series 3 (last of this series sold in Brisbane)
86000 Km on the clock
Original everything EXCEPT for the exhaust. *
Single owner, little old lady, who kept it the garage and only drove it on Sundays, like a bat out of hell, going up and down the coast road.

* The Factory exhaust was replaced in the 2000's by some after-market sports exhaust which unfortunately ruined the rotary purr. I blame my little brother for this as he talked mum into it claiming it would sound better !

Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

IanM

It's beautiful. And worth a pretty penny these days. What is she asking for it? Make sure you get it and keep it in the family!
Sounds like you are on the right track with fluids and all. Might be an idea to inspect all rubber hoses too. Might need some coaxing back to life - a squirt of oil in the spark plug holes and some "start ya bastard" in the carby.

Hopefully someone else comes along with some propper advice, plenty on here who seem to have a habit of resurrecting barn finds.

Good luck with it, its a beauty.

Yeah good call with the hoses and should probably just replace the belts I guess.

I would love to keep it in the family but unfortunately my situation just doesn't allow for that at the moment.
As for how much she wants for it, well as always as much as she can get. Just started trying to get a feel for what the Australian market is doing. I have seen a white 84 with 200 000Km on the market for AU$20K. So no idea really.

Hey Ian

I've responded to your thread on AusRotary. That white has been for sale for a year or so and hasn't sold, while other far superior cars have sold for less and very quickly.. I have given you indications of prices on AusRotary.

Change the oil, coolant, lubricate (with marvel mystery oil) the rotors through
the leading/and/or/trailing fuel injector ports then crank by hand, wait a day
then try with key, filters, oil&fuel, check the hoses, inspect and replace, seals,
and caps, air filter, then maybe check the breaks before you try and run it out
a spot. replace the pulsation damper or at least check it, clean the fuel injectors
maybe have them rebuilt, then check thermostat.
