Adding R1 lip to '94 Touring
Hi there. I'm the proud owner of a red 1994 Touring. As in title, I'd like to add an OEM R1 spoiler to the front. I understand there are normally brake cooling ducts associated with the R1. Concerns as follows:
Would the spoiler look dopey without the ducts, meaning would there be obvious vacant holes? I've looked hard for head on pictures without much success.
Would the Touring front suspension be too squishy to keep the spoiler off the road?
Thanks very much for any replies.
Peder
PS - If anyone has good links to pictures of the whale-tail spoiler, I'd be very interested.
Thanks again.

The R1 lip is a nice addition. So is the 99 spec lip (see the 3rd gen FAQ or search). I think it will look fine w/o the ducts in the undertray. Or you could also buy those ducts used or new. Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda will get you club pricing on parts. His number is in the FAQ thread also.
The suspension will be fine. While you are in the FAQ thread, read up on the suspension

I have a 93 touring and installed a r1 lip on it. It looks great and the suspension has not caused it to touch or bottom out any more then before. In truth, the lip doesn't hang down all that much further then that little plastic strip the car came standard with. The only thing you will need to watch out for is when you are entering/exiting steep grades. The lip sticks out a little further then you are used to so you need to be a little more careful, but you get used to it quickly. Also, there is a much bigger penalty for parking too close to a curb when you park head-in. Just remember that it is there and don't pull the car all the way up.
