94 FD starting issues

Hey guys, so my car is a freshly rebuilt nonsequential TwinTurbo. rebuilt by Pettit roughly 2 years ago with less than 5000 miles. It has started without issue every time until now. Basically when I turn the key to the on position I heard a noise I was not familiar with, it sounds like a solenoid of some kind and the sound comes from directly underneath the ABS module. I can't imagine what this has to do with the car not starting but seeing as how the noise occurred at the same time that the car won't start I figured it was most likely related. Has anyone ever had this kind of issue as I could not find much on the forums related to ABS failure and the car not starting other then a few situations where it ended up not being related. any help would be appreciated also I did check the battery and it is all good. I have yet to check the fuel pump or ignition as I said because I just became aware of the problem and it seemed odd that this noise which I have never heard before occurred at the same time that the car wouldn't start so I figured I'd ask before diving into inspecting all the mechanical parts of the fuel/ ignition system.

interesting......... how confident are you its coming from the abs side? theres nothing over there except the unit and to my knowledge, the abs has no bearing on whether or not the car will start. can you still hear the fuel pump prime? does it crank at all or when you go to crank do you just get that click? if it doesnt crank at all then try turning the key to the start position 3 or 4 times in rapid succession to see if it will catch. i dont want to say it sounds like the "click click start" problem but it very well may be.

step 1 in troubleshooting, check to see if youre getting 12v to the starter when you turn the key to start.

And make sure your battery isn’t on the way out. First cold nights of fall tend to weed out the weak and dying. Is it a single ‘click’ or rapid clicking?

First off thank you for the quick reply I greatly appreciate it. So I did some checking around after speaking with Pettit today as they did not think it was related to the ABS however I do have a "stuck solenoid" type sound coming from or just under the ABS itself and I mean like right under not near or close by so I'll have to deal with that later. So to the starting problem I have, I did notice that I could not hear the fuel pump and so I checked the reg. gauge and sure enough ZEROS... so I removed the pump and inspected all wires and hoses but found no sign of anything wrong other than some dirt collecting around the clip that's mounted on top of the tank in the trunk. When I inspected the inside of the clip it was nice and clean so the dirt was just on the outside, can't imagine it would effect anything. But once I put it all back together low and behold I could hear it whining when I turned the key to on position. It did sound weaker than before but it started non the less. I hope I don't have a electrical issue in the harness somewhere but what the hell its a FD so if it can happen it probably will.... lol thanks again for the advice and if the problem persist I'll be sure to update with mor info.

Also I have had the click click start problem with both of my FDs and I was not aware of the bypass method so thanks again I'll have to give it a try.👍🏻

try sanding that little tab that the clip clips on until its shiny silver again. highly unlikely but it may be a grounding issue. your pump may also be going out. new ones arent very expensive and if yours is the original then its due to be replaced anyway.
