GA 94 FD Air Bag Diagnostic Module Fail

My 94 FD has 8,000 original miles. Perfect except air bag warning light just went through several phases. First beeping/flashing - powered off and it stopped. Then five flashes, then 10 flashes, now solid light. I know the codes. This looks like a cascade of problems. Plan is to have the diagnostic mod removed, have continuity on D/S sensors and harnesses checked/fixed if needed and have diagnostic mod fixed. Resister/fuse is pretty obviously fried. May well have 1 or more bad capacitors - replace if board is not wrecked. I found one good post of a step-by-step board repair. He didn't find a battery on the circuit board which is indicated on the on the body electrical manual schematic. The part# for my Dx Mod is FD15 67 7FOA. Does anyone out there know if there is a battery on this board. Any other tech advice will be appreciated.

Do you have an After market steering wheel on the car or is it Original?

I have never had to deal with this problem. Sounds like you're a capable DIY'er when it comes to things electronic. I'm not and envy you. Just throwing this out...I'd probably just take it to a trusted modern collision shop where I live. They deal with that stuff daily.
