93 Rx7 touring that's been siting for 12 years.

I just bought an Rx7 touring with 15k miles but its been sitting for 12 years. The front bumper was damaged along with the drivers side headlight. Looks like the oil cooler also took a beating. Some of the car electricals look like they were taken apart. I really don't know where to start and tried searching but there's such a vast amount of information on this site that its hard to know where to go.
I went ahead and stripped most of the interior excluding the dash. I did this because the drivers side window was broken and had let in rain. I was going to throw away the carpet but wanted to make sure with you guys that its not too hard to come by one of these? I rather buy a new one but if they don't exist, I guess I can get this one cleaned. Don't know if any of the electricals work as lots of wires are disconnected. Any advice?

I'm not an FD guy, but regarding the engine, it's the same for any RX-7:

Interior parts like the carpet are available from the dealer. Not cheap.

As for the electrical, you'll just have to sit down with the wiring diagrams (see FAQ) and figure out what needs to be done. If it's really been hacked, a new wiring harness (from a parts for or for a million dollars from the dealer) may be the best option.

Thanks for the advice. That article was a good read. There's some loose parts in the engine bay. I think one is a cruise control, the others are the fuses, and the hood latch. Are there any good sources that show exactly where these things go? Also good places to find parts like hoses(is the dealership my only bet?)

Is it better for me to go ahead and replace all the electricals or try to see if all the electricals work

Wiring, carpet, and interior parts are all very hard to get or expensive or both. Save the carpet if you can. It's up to you whether you think the wiring is good, but I'd at least start with continuity checks. There is a full electrical diagram and service manual linked at the top of this forum. The harness that wraps around the engine bay probably took a good hit in the accident, so maybe I'd replace that if it has any damage.

If you need new harnesses, you should be able to find a decent one used unless you're looking for the "emissions" engine harness that runs from the ECU to the top of the engine block. That one gets roasted over time and as a result the good used ones are in high demand.

Poke around the classifieds and browse the pictures to get an idea of what you have that needs identified. Or post pics and we can identify stuff.

A stock oil cooler is not expensive or hard to find if you buy it used. Ditto for the headlight, window glass, and body panels.
