93 FD rx7 splutters and stalls when revving hard

Hi, Im Craig I have a 93FD RX7 with no modifications on it that I know of apart from a boost guage. I had a mechanic remove the engine so I could respray the car and 5 years later I had the engine reinstalled. The car starts fine but my problem is when you push the throttle slowly the car will rev up to 6500 RPM but when you push the throttle fast the car splutters and stalls. The engine wont rev hard unless I slowly push the throttle. I have recently started looking at vacuum pipes and tracing them around the engine to ensure they are connected both ends and I discovered the solenoid valve for the double throttle control the lower nipple has been broken off and the vacuum hose is not connected. Could this be the problem?

Any advice and help on this would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Are you on the stock ECU?
What you've described is called "Limp Mode". It's a condition that the stock ECU goes into when it detects certain failures in systems. While in Limp Mode timing is not advanced and fuel is cut as soon as vacuum is lost in the upper intake manifold. In other words...as long as you push the throttle slowly and keep vacuum, the engine will start and rev normally. To fast and vacuum is lost and timing is pulled with fuel cut.

On the stock ECU a Check Engine Light (CEL) should have been generated and a code stored for whatever failure put the engine into Limp. ----> Check Engine Light Codes
Even if you don't have a CEL on the dash, try pulling the codes and see what you get. Not all codes result in Limp Mode...but any of the three associated with the Oil Metering Pump will and are probably the most common. Not certain about Double Throttle....but I don't think so.

Disclaimer: I just noticed you're in Ireland. Not certain of the differences between our North American models and your RHD Euro models. Probably not much in this regard, but...
