88 rx7 turbo 2 ecu

hey guys i have a 1988 Rx7 turbo 2 , I want to do some performance upgrades and i fell down the rabbit hole of the fuel cut defender then chip then full stand alone what would you guys suggest and why? I found a thread and site with an oem ecu upgrade but they arent aroundd anymore unfortunately. Upgrades for sure will be 3 inch stainless exhaust, CAI , Possibly a better top mount intercooler, Upgraded coils , Any advice and leads would be awesome thanks a million.

Welcome to the forum.

I would say it depends on budget more than anything. Obviously if you don't mind spending the money, a standalone with a better harness will give you the best results, tune ability and safety. Keep in mind these cars are over 30 years old, so wiring, connections, and components are tired and wearing out. Engine parts and rebuilds aren't cheap like they used to, so rolling the dice on questionable tuning can lead to big bucks.

You could try to find an older rtek unit which is pretty cost effective, but keep in mind somewhat limiting in its abilities. You'll also want to add a wideband sensor at minimum to your list so you can monitor your conditions.
