WI 88 rx-7 13b N/A convertible

i have had an account on here posted a few times etc. long story short my rx-7 got stolen in the process of getting it back.. im new to the rotary's but have been reading a bit before i get it back etc. but as for the car. i never got to get it going. it would fire a few rounds /start misfire alot but once i let off the gas dies then. putting ATF into the engine did not help do anything no difference jus see some smoke. but then down by the exhaust manifold when i turn it over it seemed like it was ejecting either air or compression on the side like a hole was in the block or something? tried several things but never stay started/running. i do kno it sat for a long time. also heard something about you have to have a good /new battery but that wouldnt make a difference if it was on the charger/engine start would it? any help would be greatly appreciated .

If the car hasn't been sitting for an extended period you could try the deflood procedures first. If it has been sitting you could have a fuel system issue.

Since the exhaust manifold and the lower intake manifold are right down there together you could have an intake leak which could affect the running of the car. But it also could be an exhaust manifold leak which should not cause problems running at idle since O2 is not functioning at idle. The stock paper intake gaskets are prone to leaking from the high heat of the rotary exhaust.

i do not know an exact sitting time. but it has sat through winter and the guy i got it from said it sat a long time also. down by the manifold below when you turn it over it sounds like air shooting out down there. but did de-flooding steps more then 50 times

Since it sounds like it has sat for a while I would look at the fuel system. Replace fuel filter if you haven't. Since you don't know how old the gas is I would drain tank of old gas.

I would balance test the injectors which you can do on the car. Hookup a fuel pressure gauge, go to the ECU pull the proper connector from it and remove the terminal from it for an injector. Plug back in connector to ECU. Turn ignition on to energize the fuel pump. Note the pressure reading. Looking at a stopwatch ground the connector that you removed for 1 second. Note how much the fuel pressure drops. Repeat for the other injectors. Make sure the primaries pressure drops are close to equal to each other and the secondaries are close to equal to each other. If not, there could be deposits in the injectors clogging them up.

Some people say that you can't do this without an expensive professional tester but I have done it. You just have to set things up where you can ground the wire easily while looking at the stopwatch. It is possible the secondaries will flow too much and drop all the pressure but I know the primaries can be tested. If the don't test out well you will need to remove and send out to an injector service to have them cleaned.

Another alternative would be:
Since you have a leak down at either the intake or exhaust manifold you could just remove the entire intake and exhaust manifolds to replace gaskets. This will get you down to the injectors. You can remove them and flow test them or send them away to have this done. It isn't really expensive to have injectors cleaned and flow tested.
