88 GXL manual tranny filler??

Hello all,

Yes, I know it's a newbish question. But, how do you fill the manual tranny on a second gen GXL?? I haven't spent a whole lot of time looking for the fill plug yet. but if someone can tell me i'd prefer that than trying to find it myself lol. almost got everything put back together. Now I just have to put the driveshaft back on and fill er up.

Speaking of witch. 5W30 is fine for oil right??

There's a square plug on the driver-side of the transmission. If you don't have some kind of pump, running a hose down from the engine bay works well. I stick a funnel in the end and let the oil run down into the transmission.

5W30 for the engine? That's fine in colder climates, but something a little thicker is better for warm weather.

5W30 would destroy a transmission however. That's WAY too thin. 75W-90 or 80W-90 are common. You can find oil recommendations in the Factory Service Manual (FSM). There are links in the 2nd gen FAQ if you don't know one of the many sites that provide it for download.

Thanks for the replies guys,

shows you how lazy I actualy am lol didn't even bother to look hard for the filler myself.

And I don't even know WHY I put 5W30 down. I guess I've been working on to many crappy vehices lately :P some of the newer manual's take real thin oil now adays.

80/90 it is then.

and to fill her up, I've actualy got that covered with a squishy bottle, and a 10" piece of flexible tube. it works quite well for things like this, as well as diffs on other vehicles.

Actually the FSM requires you use 80-90 for thr tranny fluid & it'll take about 2.1 Qts.

Right, sorry. I thought that's what I said.

80/90 for the manual tranny and 5-10W30 for the engine.

I was actualy just mentioning that some newer vehicles(don't ask me to quote witch one's, I can't remeber) take 5W30 or even ATF in their manual trannies. it's somewhat crazy.

Alright, Finaly finished the sucker up. The retards who put the filler plug on the tranny must of put it on with a F***** Impact or something :P I opened up two wrenches on it before I finaly cracked it loose :P

Anyways, just took her for her maiden voyage, first time she's mooved under her own power since the PO(previous Owner(don't know if you guys use the terminology or not)) Brutaly disintigrated the clutch in november. There is a new issue though, I can't seem to keep the car running without some gas. she dosen't have any exhast(it's off for welding and other such things) I didn't run it for more than 5 minuets.

First, she flooded on me getting her outa the garage. got her started(barely) but couldn't keep her running. Push her down our driveway(we live on an acerage, so it's probibly 1/4 k long) can't get her started. push her down our long gradual hill just past our driveway, and i get her running when she reached 20 kilicks. ran like crap till she cleared out the excess gas. got to the bottom of the hill and I needed to keep the gas on to keep her from stalling. Startting off was touchy to, needed to put the load on very slowly otherwise she would splutter and stall. got her up the hill(by the way, I was told these things got up and moved, the car wasn't warm yet, but it's still 20 degrees celcius up here so that shouldn't be much of an issue. She was working to get up to 60 kilometers. Even my 111HP eagle can accelerate faster than that!) get her up and she's running a bit better. pull her into a spot were she can iddle for a bit(I was told these rotaries have to run for at least 5 minuets before you shut them off or they flood. step out of the car. RPM's slowly decline untill she stalles. No load on the engine, just iddling.

Any sugestions?? it does have 246,000 Kilometers on it.
