My sunroof motor is working and it will open and close, but stays popped up in the back. I've searched and found the threads going over how to take apart and clean the mechanism... but with some nasty weather approaching in the next few days I was trying to see if anyone has had similar experience or knows just a way to free up whatever is stuck just so it can close, I really don't even care if it doesn't open again after that, I really didn't want a sun roof anyway.

 

did you try manually pushing on the lid?

If you get the roof open you can clean the rack out and spray with a nice water-repelling lubricant.It helps.
Work it open and closed a couple times to get it all slicked up.

 

There is a bump in the headliner, in the middle of the rear of the sunroof opening; a round insert/cap. Pop that out and you should find the sunroof motor, where you can insert a hex wrench and manually crank the sunroof motor by hand. If that doesn't do it, then I guess the mechanism is broken or jammed. Some disassembly is required.

 

I did try both of those, with no luck. So I was thinking that something in there is jammed stopping it from closing. I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this with the sunroof on their car. Thanks for the replies.

 

I once had my sunroof seized half open. The motor didn't work. The hex wrench didn't work. In fact I manually cranked the wrench so hard, I snapped the cable/chain inside the track on one side. I was screwed with an open sunroof. Luckily, I was able to find an FC at the junkyard, with a sunroof. There I learned how to unbolt and detach the sunroof mechanism. I brought it home, gave it a thorough cleaning with varsol and brake cleaner, greased and lubed it and swapped it into my car. Never had a problem since.
But I think you need to remove the headliner and unbolt your sunroof to fix this. Even if it is just to get the roof panel into the closed position, permanently. Give yourself a few hours.

 

The front of the sunroof assembly has a pop-up wind deflector built inside the whole unit.
It is like a curved bar on spring perches.
If that stays UP then the sunroof will not close.it will jam the sunroof open,like you say.
