Question 86' Has engine miss...

I bought an 86' about a month ago and when I got it I noticed that it had a miss to the engine and I thought I might be able to fix it by getting new plugs and wires for it but that didn't fix the problem, I'm just wondering if any rotary tech savvies knows what may be the problem with my engine. I just did a compression test last night and my level was between 7 and 8 for both rotors.

Thanks,
Mark

Describe this miss. Is it just a slight miss every once and a while at idle? Or something more serious?

Ok, well when the engine is cold you really can hear and feel it through the car, but it sounds like it should then every few seconds it cuts in and out with the rear rotor. Its more of when it idles when it's cold or just getting warm but once its been run for about 15 to 20 mins it cannot be noticed as much but every once in a while it can. Mabey if I can find a camera around here I could record it then post it here to see if I can have some help.

I don't see how you could know it's specifically the rear rotor cutting out. What makes you think that?

You can clip a timing light onto each spark plug wire to see if they light flashes steadily, or if it is erratic. While you're at it, you might as well check the timing too.

well from what I guessed from a couple weeks ago i noticed some oil seeping out of the rear rotor at the plugs so I thought hey mabey there is a bad seal or it is not firing properly. But when I replaced my plugs and wires it fixed the oil seepage off the rear trailing plug but didnt fix the miss i have in the engine. I will have a video up here shortly to show the miss im talking about. Give me about 10 mins or so and itll be up.

Aside from the slight miss while the RPMs were jacked up to ~3k, it sounds pretty normal to me. A non-renesis rotary isn't going to be perfectly smooth at idle. Port overlap makes that difficult. But it's definitely not the sound of an engine running on one rotor.

You might check the TPS to be sure it's set properly, and doesn't have dead spots in the sweep. http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=58&co=1&vi=1. Make sure the engine is fully warm and the initial set coupler is jumpered before adjusting anything. Ideally, you will also see 1.0V on connector "A", when the key is to 'ON' and the engine is warm.
