Hello I have a 1986 FC gxl (non vert) that isn't starting. It has a brand new battery and I've had the starter tested at 3 different places and it checks out fine. Car has no mods other than a/c and power steering has been removed. Also it won't crank unless I use a cable directly from the battery. Ideas?

Bonus question: I have a group of cables dangling from below the car (transmission area) and I have no idea what it is for. Here's a photo.
