85 GSL AC relay problem
Hi All, the guy I bought my 85 GSL from said the AC works fine but the relay that controls the magnetic clutch on the compressor does not work. he ran an aligator clip from the battery to one of the connections on the compressor to get it to come on.
I picked up a manual and tonight I looked under the hood, located the wire coming off the compressor but was not able to trace it further back into the harness to locate a relay.
Where is this relay located? Also in the wiring diagram I looked at it shows the power steering having something to do with this relay. Previous owner said he was never able to get the power steering to work but it was not a big deal.
any help would be appreciated,
thanks, Keith

I actually had my relay fail on my car, lol.
It's on the driverside inner fender

In the above image, it's the black relay, about 6" to the drivers side of the front of the brake master.

thanks for the info. On my 85 GSL it was a little different but not much. I just need to confirm now with the colored wires. any difficulty getting a replacement?
BTW - does this relay affect power steering? the wiring diagram I have show power steering and AC running through the one resister. Previous owner says power steering did not work even though he replaced the pump twice
nice engine bay, I'm up in the salt belt. all the non painted parts on mine have a touch of corrosion. plus it realy plays hell on conections
the exterior and underside are pretty clean though.
yes those are snow shoes hanging on the wall

I opened up all the connections on the relays on that fendor. all had the dreaded green oxidation so prevelant on brass fittings in the salt belt. I gave both male and female ends of the connection a work out with with contact cleaner and a tooth brush and then a spray with die-electric grease.
hopefully that does the trick.
