'85 12a turbo starter motor query
I need to replace the starter motor in my rx7. I thought i could use the starter from my na motor but this seems to be slightly different. The size of and number of teeth on the gear are different. I have also checked numerous other starters which are all the same as the one from my na motor.
can any one shed some light? did they use a different fly wheel for the turbo engines? the code on my starter is M3T36081
Cheers

Turbo 12A? Is this some crazy JDM motor you had imported or a modified USDM 12A that's been turbo'd?
Anyone want to gander a guess or does anyone actually have an answer?

Try contacting the guy u baught the motor from. Maybe he can shed some light on you about the motor. Maybe he sold it to you because of the same problem. Maybe he sold it to u as a jdm engine, because, well, most of us hear jdm, and automatically get excited! I have seen a few 12a turbos, and, maybe they have different fly wheels. Regardless, u need to put the right starter in there man... Reason being, if the teeth in the gear are different, it can possibly get stuck, and not move. OR, simply just not turn ur car on. Can ur car get push started? does is start at all?
Reson being, i put in the wrong starter in my jetski, and that D#$% left me stranded at the dock, because, "it gots stuck". FTMFL
Oh, and if i remember right, my old12a, when i switched out the engine for a younger year, just to give away a running car, I had to use a different fly wheel. I honestly dont remember what it was, but it gave me alote of problems when i was installing it...
Hope my first post helped at all!
