84 GS Fuel Pump

Hey all,

Just recently bought an RX7 and I love driving it. I searched the forum for awhile trying to find the same issue as me but couldn't come up with anything.

When I first bought the car it drove great, but as I was driving it home after buying it the fuel pump died. We got it towed back home and decided to try to start it again a couple hours later and it just fired right back up! So we changed the fuel filter (it was pretty nasty) and put an inline filter on it so we could see if any junk was getting to the carb, all seemed to be ok for almost 600 miles.

I was driving the car (a couple weeks down the road) and i noticed it was started to buck while in gear, so I pushed the clutch in. There was no fuel going through the inline filter at all, so i decided to push it to a nearby friends house to let it sit overnight. I went back the next day and the thing fired right back up and fuel pump was working again.

What could this be? A fuel pump going out? Fuel pump relay?

Thanks

Could be loss of the trailing ignition (pump will only run if trailing ignition is firing).

Could be fuel pump overheating (maybe even due to clogged filter, I'd replace it again and see how the old one looks inside).
