Question '84 GS engine work (Need Help!)

I am new to this forum, so I apologize if there are any posts regarding these issues. I have pawed through and read some posts and have a basic Idea of what to do, I'm just not quite sure about everything, or if I can do much of it myself.

Straight to the point then! I just bought an '84 GS (12A motor) from someone that obviously didn't know what they were doing, and that says a lot because I only know basics. It will run and drive, but not what I would consider "safely".

It looks like from what I've read, I have to replace the O-rings that are contained in the "beehive" oil cooler that sits under the oil filter. I'm wondering if a universal O-ring kit will fit the size needed, or if I have to order the part. Basically if anyone knows the measurements of them then it would be helpful!

Also, I replaced the Carburetor (spell) pre-heater hose with one that seemed also universal. I noticed the other one that I pulled off (or what was left of it) had a woven fabric around the hose itself. I'm wondering if it's necessary for me to look for the OEM part or if the basic metalic hose I bought would work fine.

Also, when the engine is at operating temperature it likes to pump a slow but steady stream of coolant that I can't seem to see where it's coming from. I know the water pump is located behind the fan, I'm just wondering if there's a common problem with the coolant leaking from the 12A motor around that area (under water pump) that just replacing the water pump wouldn't fix.

Oh, and to mention the gas tank. I haven't looked at it/pulled it from the car, but it wont hold more than 8 gallons without leakage/spill. I have not personally filled it enough to make it spill, but common problem areas there would be good insight.

(this is out of order because I keep thinking of things the car does -_-) But also when I start the car, when it's colder out it does take a minute to start which may be normal, however the car will die shortly after until fully warmed up/all the smoke gets mainly burned out of the exhaust. I read that a FPR may fix the dying issue, but would the smoke have any affect to that?

As a result of those problems, after driving about 2 miles and parking again, I get smoke from the Air intake. I also get a lot of smoke somewhere in the exhaust. The exhaust I'll replace, I just can't put my finger on what burns. It doesn't smell sweet, and doesn't have a blue tint to it. So I'm almost ruling out a major oil or coolant burn there. Any Ideas?

I'm going to school for auto service / auto body soon, so I know the basics. I am fairly new to RX-7's as well as cars in general, so any insight or advise would be appreciated. Thanks for listening!

(I have radiator hoses, a water pump, and some O rings in a cart online, just waiting for answers before I go ahead and spend my money unwisely.)

The car will not be driven and most likely covered until I can fix these issues. Sorry the post is so long!
