The previous owner of my car took out the entire heater/AC and radio things to replace the AC but never finished. he the majority of the center console and i want to replace it in general instead of trying to just fix the one thats already there. howeever, i'm having problems finding one that fits into the dash perfectly.. i would really rather not replace it with the original '81 type..
any suggestions?
(if this makes any sense. im more engine smart than interior smart!!)
oh yeah and my dash is cracked.. so should i just replace the whole thing?

 

Hmmm, you're really trying to re-invent the wheel there. If you're a great fabricator, that hole will swallow up just about any modern AC system made for a compact car or a BMW...just get all the pieces and go for it...if you're not a master fabricator, you're much better off simply getting replacement pieces for that year...honestly.
