80 RX7 LS Leather Sport Edition Start Up Issue

Replaced the Original 1980 12A Rotory Engine Nikki Carb with a 1979 12A. Old Engine Was Froze Up. Should be same engine with exception that in 1980 they introduced Electronic Ignition. Tried to tune everything to specs when installing the engine. Can't get gas to the engine. Fuel pumps works, replaced several, but still can't get gas to engine. Engine I bought ran but not for me. Have
RX manual for it but need help solving problem. Gas Tank Full. Fuel **** Ok. Maybe auto gas shut off. Don't know. Tired tinkering with it. Advise if have any ideals. Has something to do with return gas line ****. rxaddict

Did you take to gas supply line off at the carb and check flow? Take the line off and place it in a two quart pop bottle and crank car for a couple of seconds. If your pump is working and no gas, check to fuel filter and line.

What was wrong with the old carb that you had to switch it out?

80 RX7 LS Leather Sport Edition Startup Issues

The original 1980 12A I Replaced it with a 1979 12A that I bought with no carb, I used the 1980 12A carb that I had. Don't know what the 1979 12A carb would look like without looking. In 1980 they added I think an EGR valve to the emissions besides the electronic ignition. Used the Distributor from my original 1980 engine and it fit and bolted right up to the electronic ignition wires on the right fender. The 80 Distributor did away with the point and condenser system. Figured it wouldn't matter which distributor I used since it is only for timing and starting. Used the 1980 12 Engine carb. So didn't reallty switch out the carb only used what I had. I kept a detail maintenance log of what I did so I would have to go back and look on my flash drive for the records. Thanks for replying to my tread. rxaddict

Did you also install the 1980 ignitor box?

Let us know how the checking the fuel flow goes.

Ignitor box was already on the firewall. Everything is hooked up to the ignitor box. 79's didn't have that! Got image and pics of engine in Gallery eif645 if you would like to browse. Haven't got RX7 with me. The 1980 that is. I am moving to Boise, Idaho and want to bring up here from the farm I had to sell in Declo, Idaho. I will have to go down on a weekend and try to get it cranked up. Better to drive it than haul it but may have to have it hauled to my new place in Boise anyway. I'm not parting with this Special Leather Sports Edition RX7. Only 1 of 2500 units made in 1980. Most have been junked and or crushed and not many left around.

ok - now I understand. Sounds like the dizzy is good. Make sure you have spark and check the fuel at the carb.
