79 rx7 won't stay on

So, I haven't been on here in a long time. I lost my 1st rx7 about a year ago. Finally have a new one. Bought it not running. Would not even turn over. Determined the carb was bad. I now have a new one and the car will turn over, but as soon as I let the key return back from the start position it dies immediately. Any insight would be great. Also it's fed emmisions. Not sure if that matters.

Thanks!

You may have a faulty ignition.

To me sounds like a lack of fuel or spark

Tested both fuel and spark. It's all there to include compression.

Heynoman, is there a way to test if it is the ignition? Thanks for the replies

Pull the covers off from around the column. I believe the wire you are going to be testing is black and white and it should have power once the switch Is turned all the way forward. Also double check all your fuses.

So do you think it could be as simple as the distributor cap and rotor? My thinking is when you turn the key to the start position it's drawing all 12v of power from the battery. When you let it turn back it's not drawing that much. So if the contacts in the Cao and rotor poor, it might not be enough power after it turns back to spark? What do yall think?

I don't think your getting power out to the distributor and coils in the on position . I think power is only being transmitted when the ignition switch is in the start position.

Heynoman any idea where I can get a good quality ignition? I've also thought about converting it to push button start. Any thoughts?

Im not sure if you can still get them thru the Mazda dealer but it's worth a shot. Other wise I think Atkins sell them but I'm not 100% on this . You can also try place a add in the parts section.

So, I've finally replaced all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and ignition cylinder. Still have the same issue. Any other ideas
