5 speed shifter

Just a quick question. I popped my shifter **** off the other day planning on replacing the bushings but, is there supposed to be fluid in there?

Typically yes, the shifter box is a separately filled reservoir. However over a long period of time it all drains back into the main transmission case. I've stopped filling it with transmission oil as it just makes a huge mess. Instead I heavily grease the bushings, shift lever ball and as much as I can the rods.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to a short throw shifter... I am with Aaron, grease the heck out of that bushing...I cant stand the sound of shifter rattle.
