Hi everyone, I know a lot of you are against putting V8 engines in RX-7s, but I have decided to do an LS1 in mine. It's better on gas, more horsepower and my Dad knows a lot about them including how to tune them. So I have an '85 GSL so I have the stock LSD and the 4x110 bolt pattern. My question is, would it be fine to leave the 4x110 on there? Or would it be best to try and do a 5 lug swap? I will be tracking the car (road course/autox) as well as using it as a daily driver. I just am not sure if it would be worth the money to do the 5 lug swap or not. Any input would be very much appreciated.

 

The "5 lug swap" involves a custom set of front hubs or front 2nd gen subframe, and having the rear swapped over to 5 lug by machining new holes. So it's not quite trivial. That said, 4 lug is fine and the only real downside is that the wheel selection isn't as universal.

Check out a company called ReSpeed, they have the kits to put TII 5 lug calipers and rotors on 1st gens. If your car is already four wheel disk its all bolt on if I am not mistaken. I helped a buddy put one of these kits on an SA long ago and it was rather straight forward. Your GSL front spindles may work with the kit, however I am unsure. When I did it he had already swapped SE spindles and rear into the car.
