3rdgen pre-cat

Hello Members,

Could you please let me know where I could find either good quality used stock pre-cat or if there are any aftermarket ones available?

I am trying to pass CA smog and the only non stock part I have is a down pipe.

Post a WTB in your regional and 3rd gen for sale sections. They are out there even though there aren't many listed for sale since few want to buy them. Won't cost more than $50 + shipping but you can prob find one locally.

From what I read many owners pass in CA with DPs. If you need to look stock you can get an HKS DP or a JDM OE downpipe ( they didn't have the precat in non-US markets). The JDM will be less expensive but will have a restriction the way the upper casted section is made because it had to acomodate the steering shaft for a RHD car. You see some JDM pipes on Ebay.

Thank you for your response. I post my request in the other forum.

My rational for installing a pre-cat is a result of not passing the HC and NO smog tests. When I bought the FD the pre-cat was removed and a straight through down pipe installed. I can only assume that if I add a pre-cat it will help my emissions.

I'm with Crimson, pretty sure MANY owners out there are passing emissions without the pre-cat. I would look elsewhere to solve the problem.
The pre-cat was just designed to heat up quickly and be effective on cold start. After that I don't think it did much. It's also not exactly a walk in the park to swap it out with your downpipe. And when you're done with testing, you really should remove the pre-cat. It effectively bakes everything under your hood, including plastic solenoids, actuators and vacuum hoses. More importantly, they have some history of collapsing, plugging the main cat and damaging the engine.
