2nd gen stereo

i have had many problems with my second gen stereo. it is stock, s5. i frequently have an issue come and go of it cutting out randomly, whether it be cd, radio or whatever. not when i brake, or hit a bump or anything, it is totally random, i can even be at a stand still. i notice it a lot more when the weather is hot.
besides that, while driving home yesterday, i drove pretty hard in 1st and 2nd gear and the sound completely cut out, and is now not coming back at all. any ideas? hoping someone else has had something similar

check the fuse under the driver's side dash..in the footwell. If it is corroded it can do that.
