2nd-Gen | Struggling to unplug ECU harness connectors

Hi everyone! I’m sort of new here, and this might be a rookie question — but I’ve searched the forums and Google without much luck, so I’d really appreciate some help.

I’m trying to unplug the three ECU harness connectors on my 1991 RX-7 FC convertible (photo below shows the biggest one). I’ve been pressing the green tab (marked with the red arrow) — it clicks, so I think the internal latch is releasing? — but the connector itself won’t budge. It feels totally stuck with no movement at all.

Not sure if I’m just lacking hand strength (wasn't using any tools b/c fear of breaking something) or missing something about the locking mechanism. Any tips or tricks would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Those can be tricky. Hold the tab with a screw driver or other if necessary.
The hard part is finding a way to pull on the connector while holding the tab with something.
The tang can get stuck too, a good wiggle of the connector while pressing down can pop it loose.

Maybe I looked at that picture wrong the first time. It looks like some other locking mechanism is on there too. Maybe I am seeing the mate to the female part and how it is secured.
If nothing else this is a bump.

Also, try pushing in the tang and then pushing in the connector at the same time. That can pop it loose too.

Thank you so much Jeff! I will try these and come back with updates.

This worked. I needed to push the inner square left to the flat tang REAL HARD. Definitely challenging for my female finger strength but was possible with some prying tools.

Bare in mind, these connectors have probably been like that since '91... They've either vibrated tighter or looser or both as 25 something years has gone by.

Good to know you got it sorted. Also good to know that I am not the only one to have issues with these at times.
