20B single turbo - Rx8 or Rx7?
Hi, So I have a 92' Fd in reasonable condition (mine since 2004), stock twins, PFC, ported, rebuilt etc, just ran 327hp on WGT's dyno in the UK, but I wanted much more!
Made a few enquiries and now I own a D series 20B ready for rebuild. There are lots of options of what to do with this, I have pretty much decided on single turbo, street ported as I want around 550hp. Its off to WGT next weekend to get the rebuild started.
My dilema is what car to put it in? Rx7 or Rx8?
Rx7 is cool and I have one, Rx8 is said to handle very well also, I like the wolf in sheeps clothes idea, and I like the fact that I can get one with a dead engine for £400 ish.
I like the engineering project aspect and will do a few trackdays but not much else.
what do you lot think? other criteria to consider?

mmm....there's certainly an oversupply of broken Rx8's to go at! wont feel so bad cutting one up to put a cage in.
On the other hand, in theory, if I free the 13B up from the '7, that could go in something smaller, given an infinate amount of time and resources....

I think it depends on which body better suits your needs.
In stock form, the RX-8 is heavier and pulls less lateral g's than an FD, so I would not let its supposed handling influence the decision.
Personally, I prefer the FC for street driving.

You can stuff a 275 under stock fenders on an 8 with no roll or pull.

I would put it in an fb or fd if speed and handling are the main desire. To me
the RX8 is a close second, a way for a family man to have 4 doors for everyone, and have a fun ride too. I've driven both, and the fd id by far the best handling stock. I have a stock fb and love the way it drives. Power is not my main goal, buy a true sport car drive does it for me. I don't get out on the track, so rarely go over 100. I just want a car that handles the road like a sports car should.
