BC 1st gen illumination dimmer repair

I have a tip for those who have struggled with their illumination dimmer. If it's been blown by a short somewhere downstream, you may need to replace the large transistor inside the dimmer assembly.

The transistor is a T-PNP, 50W. A suitable replacement is NTE153. A good electronics store should be able to find it for you. Works as good as new.

Nice! So many owners find those two wires under the shift boot which look like they should be plugged in together, then the switch burns up and you've got no dash lights. Good to know this can be repaired without replacing the entire switch. Thanks!
