NC 1993 rx7 rear glass leaking

I have a 1993 rx7 and just had the rear molding replaced around the rear glass. My question is I am still experiencing after it rains or I wash the car I lift the rear hood and water just pours into the rear trunk area dripping down onto wear the rear brace attaches. Is this normal?

you are supposed to pick the car up and shake it first before you open the hatch!
NO,it is not normal!!!

likely a bad hatch seal.
(look up Raye Crowe@Malloy Mazda..he can get you anything.)

Apologies Misterstyx, for disagreeing with a mod... but yes, based on the OP's description it's normal. There's a void or little ledge under the hatch glass molding right on the side curve where water collects after you wash the car. When you raise the hatch, a little runs out from beneath the moulding. Not a lot, but a small PITA. My car's done it from day-one. When I wash the car I"m always ready with a couple towels when I raise the hatch to empty it. If you drive, motion and air pressure gets rid of it in short order....but then you have spots.

It's meant to flow down towards the rear lights u der the black plastic corners and drain out. Remove the screws from those plastic covers on the two corners of the hatch and check that there is no accumulation under them as that's your draining point.

Ok next time I will drive the car around then test the hatch by opening it. If water pours in again then for sure will replace rear hatch seal. Ty all for responses.

No it's not. Not from the glass. You're talking about the hatch seal. Two different things.

I am not familiar with the Fd,but on an FC they have little drain locations in each corner of the rear hatch area,on the body of the car near the tails.
The corners have holes with tubes, and the tubes clog with debris and then that area can accumulate water...Easily fixed by cleaning the tubes with a coat hanger.

I can understand a little excess after a washing,or a rain, but this problem sounds a little more involved than just the "normal buildup" of water due to bad run off.

No drains on the FD. Water outside the rubber hatch seal just drains off behind the lights.

There's a metal trim piece that goes around the hatch glass to cover up the glass seal. The glass channel under the trim isn't completely filled with sealant (otherwise it'd would probably show from beneath the trim) and water will sit in it until the hatch is raised (or you drive the car), and will drip down as the OP described. It's not leaking into the interior from the glass seal. Just drips down from that channel when you raise the hatch after washing. It's annoying, but it's normal.

No mine leaks water from inside were those dampners are mounted. There is hole there were plastic is for them to mount. So when I open my hatch water pours in from those holes and literally falls directly on the rear strut braces. I am so glad found that out after washing my car. And
My car is garage kept. I had new rear molding put in but still doing it?

Well then that couldn't be "normal"...could it.
LOL. Just a wierd coincidence that my hatch (and every other FD owner's I've talked too) dripped water in that very spot from outside the seal. My mistake. Who'd have thought that an obvious leaking glass seal could be mistaken for 'normal'.
