1993 RX7 FD3S Won't run

I need some help guys. I have a 1993 RX7 FD3S and it wont start and stay running. I have checked the Alternator and the battery. No such luck there. I have ordered a new fuel filter that will arive tommorow. I am hoping its something so simple. I have asked the Guys at the local Mazda shop but they keep saying that is probley the seals. I did have a aftermarket Nav system put in and they attached the ground so it would play anytime. Please i need some help.
Here is what is doing:
Last week I was driveing on the Hi way and the car just shut off. and then i had to wait 10 minutes and it worked fine since then. until two days ago when i was driving and it went down agian as I was waiting at a light. this time i had to wait a half hour to get it started and when it did it back fired really loud. then I had to hold the throttle to the floor to get it to go above 600 RPMs. this is really weird to me. when it first happened I checked the alt. and the bat. with know luck after the second time i have stopped driving it but have checked the bat, the alt, and the plugs. ? please help this is my first rotary and I really want to keep it but im stumped.
Thank you
Grant

If you've already checked all the electrics, my guess is that for some reason or another your car is running too rich and flooding itself. (you said it took awhile to start and backfired when it did). If I was you I'd try a deflooding procedure, adjust the idle, or check for any OBD codes. I've never had an FD though and I hear they can be rather temperamental...

How long have you had the car? What are the details of the car? Mileage, options, mods. List what maintenance you have already done.

I have owned the car no for 8 months. When I bought it, it was bone stock. has 74,000 KMs on the clock with org. motor. As for mods, just a few. First was a Boost Gauge and real temp gauge. then the twin hi flow HKS intake. followed by a full exuast and down pipe. and as said before the nav system.
As for maintanince, it had a comp. test done before I bought the car, change the plugs, oil change every 3000 KMs, coolant flush, and trans. flush. also before I bought it had new tires put on and an algin. done.
I should ad i charge the new bat. all night and put it in the car this morning and it started right up like normal. however I have not drivin it yet. going to do the fuel filter tonight just becuase I have it parked.
Thanx
Grant
