1991 convertibe, new vehicle

Just bought this car in Florida and had shipped to Toronto and have questions.

The top will not electrically retract but it beeps. Whats the problem.
Owner said he drove with top down all the time but hasn't explained how.

I have airbag warning light and check engine light on. There is no box near engine though that has the test points. Will dealer have to fix it?

Where soft top mounts to body on the side is gap big enough for a finger on each side. Why if its original top.

In centre consol is speaker controls but there are no headrest speakers. Why.

Tool kit is missing, except for jack. Presumably it stores on left side of trunk but how does it latch down. What goes in long storage space infront of bumper.

The first time I tried to start it flooded. Manual says crank with gas pedle held to floor. That did not work but cranking with no gas did. Which is right.

I can't help with the top issues, but on the other stuff.

You'll find instructions for pulling the codes in the 2nd gen FAQ. You'll need to count the blinks on the CEL light.

Cranking with the pedal to the floor is the correct procedure on a flooded engine in an S5 car. The ECU will cut all fuel to the injectors at that point.

However the car should not be flooding in the first place. Typically flooding is caused by leaking/dirty injectors. If it has been a long time since the car was tuned up, that's the first place to start.

Questions on new 91 vert

The previous owner explained that to open the top he just unlatched each side and lifted it up hard from the front. Then he pushed it back and it folds up. Then undo the latch on the back of the hard section, at the right, and it would fold down.

I would never have thought of that as its the emergency method and its way too hard to lift it back up t o close. He says near the floor behind the passenger seat is a hole and you put a torx screwdriver in and turn and it re-engages the motor. He did not say if the motor works. Any idea on what size torx?

I was never able to find the test box in the engine compartment to check the codes on the check engine light as it is on as well as airbag.

He also told me that the tool kit was at the left front of the trunk behind a piece of fabric that is velcroed in. Good as I would never have found it. Does anyone have a wheel centre nut for sale?

How exactly do you store the jack in the compartment on the left soit does not bounce around?

What is the long storage compartment for directly in-front of the bumper?

From the manual it looks like there are two fuse panels in the car. On the drivers side under the trim??? Is that right as cigarette lighter is dead.

When drivers window motor turns but window will not lower whats usual cause?

Last point. In the centre consol are switches for the headrest speakers but there are no none. Could it have come from the factory that way or would the headrests have been swapped. The seats and headrests are black vinyl.

there is a fuse for the top on the Fuse block under the drivers side dash.
The motors have a microswitch that would tell the motor if the top is down or up.
you can check those by taking the plastic trim off down by the Columns where the sides meet the Floor of the car.(where the motor arms go when retracted).
when the top works correctly: you unlatch, hit the switch( I usually had the Ebrake on),and it will retract..sometimes get stuck, nudge it a bit and it goes back all the way.
the Hard section: you would fold it down by hitting that Button to unlock the hard top from the soft section, and it would allow it to fold down.
