1990 gtu

Is it possible to (fairly easily) swap in an LSD into this model?

From what I understand the 1990 GTU has a NON lsd

Thank you,
M

To avoid driveshaft modification and changing cv shafts you will have to find an N/A LSD. It's a direct replacement. I think you just need to remove exhaust/driveshaft/cv joints at the diff. and then the diff.. Some of those bolts will be a pain.

Specifically the bolts to subframe:

You may have to lower left side of subframe to hit those bolts square with an impact. Impact is your best friend. If you have to do this by hand you will light your car on fire lol.

I'll also mention that you will want a helping hand to lower the diff.. She's heavy and awkward to handle alone.

So an lsd from say an 86-88 gxl would have no issues fitting the S5? Thanks

Yes but make sure it's from an N/A.

EDIT: Also, be sure not to buy viscous. If it's S5 there's a good chance it is viscous. Viscous type is non-serviceable.

Viscous has a different ratio so it's easy to tell if it is. Viscous is 4.3:1. 86-88 you're safe as viscous was not an option until 89 if I'm not mistaken.

I keep adding to this -you may need a balancing after swap.

I am going to see the car car next week, it's a beautiful mint GTU. Literally the only thing I would change would be the diff. It's pristine!

If for some reason I cannot find a USED LSD from an 86-88 car. I could just drop the 1000 on a KAZZ unit from Mazdatrix and it should be a direct fit >? yes?

Thanks for the reply.
