I have a 1988 Rx7 that hasnt moved or been started in about 20 years. If I put a new battery and new fluids in it should I just try to start it or are there other things I should do before I try to start it?

The fuel tank should be cleaned, fuel filter replaced, fuel sock on fuel pump replaced, fuel pump checked, fuel injectors cleaned professionally.

 

I would also squirt some oil into the rotor housings, turn it by hand and let it soak for a while.

 

Would you happen to know about how much all of that would cost? And would it hurt if I just tried to start it without doing any of that?

 

Try to turn it by hand first, probably frozen. If frozen, hitting the starter could cause major
problems. Personally I'd throw liquid wrench in there to get it loose. Many years ago Liquid
Wrench worked great to clean out the buildup in the valve train. Used it many times.

Last year I looked at a S4 that the original owner had sitting in a garage
for 24 years. Engine couldn't be turned and as it was a cheap
model, I walked away.

 

If you did the work, yourself outside of having the injectors cleaned, it would probably cost about $200-$250 or so. Chances are you will clog the injectors if they are not clogged already.
