1988 GXL. throtel problems? not to sure help me ples

sry if spelling is bad i have dislexia so its hard even with spell cheek
Ok so here is what i got. i have a 1988 GXL with about 93 k on it. its an automatic ( i know lame). the car drives and runs but it dose not run that well. At a stop it can die because my idle is so bad for example coming to a stop it is bouncing from 1000rpm done to about 250rpm and my car wants to erg foreword to keep it from dieing. now its time to step on the gas. all the way to the floor i putt across intersections and then once it get a little bit more speed with peddle all the way down remember. It finally opens up and all the power seams to be there. at half throttle its jerky like maby the fuel is not getting there or it was possibly timing problems. O and one more thing i am getting a lot of heat coming up right under the shifter like way hot also i have seen white smoke / stem come up from there as well. so fare i have done the oil and changed my spark plugs ran some fuel injector cleaner in it o and checked my timing which is alright they are sparking on the proper marks so idk now next i am getting spark plug wires for it.

i am new to RX7s but i love them already ples help maby just through a list at me of what i should be replacing in order Because i am shooting in the dark with this lol

The bouncing idle and hesitations are probably TPS related. The TPS may be bad, or it may just be way out of adjustment. A 2 LED method can be used for setting it, but a simpler route is using a multimeter to measure voltage. With the engine fully warm, back probe the isolated wire on the TPS plug (3 wires total. The other 2 are side-by-side). Put the other lead on the (-) battery terminal, and measure voltage with the ignition to ON (the engine does not have to be running). You're looking for 1.0vdc. If it's off, adjustments can be made via adjustment screw.

Testing resistance sweep is also a good idea. There are guidelines in the FSM fuel and emissions section to do this. If there is a dead spot in the range, it will cause problems.

Also, your shift boot is probably torn up or missing. Whatever is smoking/steaming under the car will have to be located visually, so just check for leaks.
