1987 RX7 FC Caught Fire!!!

Still new to the rotary scene, ran into an issue i cant seem to figure out.. I started the car, drove it for a bit (after fixing my previous water pump issue) then turned the car off. Everything seemed fine until the Fire Nation attacked.. lol So I started the car at night, let it warm up, then drove 20 feet before i saw smoke. Popped the hood, the **** is on fire for christ sake. I put the fire out and tried to recollect myself, it seems as if it was an electrical issues and it fried whatever was near it. I have no idea what the part is called nor where to find it. The car starts but wont keep the idle going, constantly dies out. I will be posting pictures shortly. Any advice/info on the part or where i can find it would be highly appreciated.

Ah.. the typical bac valve catching fire.... jk. I’ve never seen that happen. It’s called the bacv though.

reading the title i thought it was going to be a fuel fire. On my 88 I’ve had to replace chassis harness due to under engine bay temps being so hot from the rotary engine. So good idea to go over your wiring and check for potential cracked wires and rewrap the harness.

Glad nothing too crazy happened to the car and happy to hear you’re alright. Maybe check rotary_resurrection’s ebay store. May have a replacement harness and that valve.

i should have one as well as the connector, pm me if interested. the car should run if you disconnect it, right now it looks like a permanent short circuit.

I'm gonna try disconnecting the wiring and starting it the morning. Fingers crossed nothing else blows up lol. Worst case scenario I'll get a new piece, although they're a bit pricey. I'll keep you guys posted!

A bit pricey?..where are you shopping?..Goldman Sax?..
That thing used on this forum can be bought for about 10 bucks.I wouldn't even go new as it's not worth it.It will get tossed in the pile eventually as a "rip this stuff off to make it go faster" delete tactic!

Spontaneous BAC combustion! Never seen that before.

The BAC is easy to replace and cheap. Loads are for sale on this forum.

But one thing to consider is that it is possible, rather likely, that the BAC drive transistor has been burned out in the ECU.

Best open up the ECU and check.

I apologize for the delay! Got caught up with life and the poor thing has just been sitting there. It still turns on thankfully but seems to have a rough time idling. Although it might be the sparkplugs and wires, how important is it to replace? I can't seem to find anyone selling the wiring with it (since mine melted together..)

do you not read your own thread? insightful said he had one with a connector, just have to contact him. If your scared of buying parts online like this, don't be with him, he's honest and a good guy, and won't rip you off, I promise

I know this isn't common but it sure does make you want to get a fire extinguisher for the car
