1985 GSL-SE 13b more to fix.
With help from this forum the engine is running well. Right or wrong I'm using factory specifications to judge progress.
So far I have idle correct and smooth at 800, MPG at 17.4 in town (started at 14!), no highway driving, but cannot attain 0-60 below 10 seconds. Sure, I realize driving skills play a big part but thought I should be faster than this. Something sub 8 seems right with a good driver.
For this latest problem I have tried the self help method searching the forum and looking at parts manuals but am stumped.
The double throttle diaphragm is constantly being pulled down by vacuum so the secondary throttle valves are always closed. I pulled the air funnel and confirmed this. Using a infrared thermometer the water thermo valve is at 163F and should be open at 140 F. It apparently is stuck or failed. Part number for this was easy to find,
13980A
N30413980A
VALVE, THERMOSTAT
MANUAL TRANSMISSION
I cannot find the part number for the double throttle diaphragm. (In the red circle area) I think both have problems. With no vacuum (engine off) the secondary throttle valves are about 50% closed. I can push them open, it's as if a spring return is bad or missing in the double throttle diaphragm. I expect it to almost snap open with no vacuum or at least return to open with authority. Manual says they should be full open and they are not.
Which brings me to my questions today.
1) What is a good 0-60 time for an average driver with a 180K GSL-SE? Engine has good compression per my mechanic. He used the correct tools.
2) Anyone know the part number for the double throttle diaphragm?
3) Can these parts be simply cleaned?
4) Reading the forum seems like the purpose of the secondary throttle valve is to help cold running. We're into spring in PA so cold right now is 45 degrees at night. Any negative to temporarily blocking the secondary throttle valves open? I think this could be done safely and easily.
Tried calling local Mazda and that didn't work. I think they were willing to help but just don't get calls often on this older car.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes they can. I removed the thermo valve and kept spraying WD40 into the air ports while immersing in 190 degree F water then back to 80 degree F water. After a few back and fourth's the bubble stream started switching. Installed back in the car and it is now working as the the manual shows.
Also loosened up the double throttle diaphragm and now the secondaries are full open when they are supposed to be. 0-60 is now 9.15 on a single pass test so that's an improvement.
Would still appreciate help with the part number for the double throttle diaphragm.

Continued to try and attain 0-60 at around 8 seconds as a benchmark that matches various pieces of information on GSL-SE performance. Finally got there! 5 and 6 ports were frozen. Had to remove both intake manifolds to take care of the problem. Now I'm going to just drive it for a while and enjoy.
Thanks to all who helped along the way.
