I have a 1985 RX7 GSL that i
just picked up. i am not familiar with these cars at all. the car needs a new carb or carb rebuild. can i really would just like to replace it. i just dont know what size carb it needs and who the best make would be or where to get one. I would appreciate the help if you can answer any of my questions. Thanks!

Rebuild the one you've got, or buy a used one. You could replace it with something else, but not easily or cheaply. Racing Beat sells a Holley setup, but with the intake that you need to go with it you're looking at real money.
A rebuild kit can be had for about 30 bucks, and you can perform the rebuild in a few hours.
And I agree with dankekong; what is the issue that you are having?

If you are not satisfied with the answers found here on the forums, I have a 1985 GSL-SE with 12A N/A with a Weber TYPE 45 DCOE 152. The only problem with the carb, is that the stock choke cable is a bit short (but you do not HAVE to replace choke cable, you can make due with a zip tie as its cold metal). The carb works great, I only get around 12 MPG but easily have enough HP to compensate. I am however looking to trade down to stock, now that gas is expensive, so do consider fuel consumption. I have heard great things of Holley carbs on 12A engines, both HP and fuel consumption. Let us all know what you choose.
as a side note, dont forget its not JUST the carb, you must also fit the intake manifold. Mine was cracked when i pulled it off, make sure to completely take yours off too! Better to be safe than sorry!
