ID 1981 questions

Just bought this car and have pretty much stripped it down, last night I rebuilt the carb and will know if I did it right here soon but I what to get a few experts advice on some topics:

1) My cat is fried and I dont want to replace it just yet so couldnt I just remove all the insides and pop it back up? Would that release any power?

2) With that in mind what would happen if I removed the air pump since the cat is gone anyways? Besides a weight drop! Maybe a little gain since you remove a belt? Off the line maybe!

3) So if I were to remove the AC, Air Pump, (front)Cat, and Rats Nest what would I be looking at as far as performace? 60lbs lighter and maybe 8hp? And if all that is removed what would still need to be hooked up or altered to make it work properly? Thanks guys for any advice!!

Gutting the cat will certainly help in flow. Once it's gutted, there is no reason for the air pump.

Removal of the rats nest won't net you really any power. If it is done incorrectly, it can cause a lot of problems.

You really won't gain much in removing the airpump anyway. Your major gain will be from gutting the cat but even then you are stuck with a horrid stock exhaust manifold.

For the rat's nest removal, read the FAQs in the 1st gen forum. Not sure what manual you're using for the carb rebuild, but the following is a link to the online FSMs and factory carb manual.

Thanks for the advice guys! Now if you could help me on the latest issue. I posted another thread, but basically removed my manifold just because I like to see how things work and forgot that I didnt drain the anti-freeze before hand. I dont know how much got into the intake but i'm freaking out! Did i screw anything up or will it just burn up when i put new oil and run the engine for awhile! I didnt plan on starting it for another week or so and i'm worried the anti-F will ruin the seals! Is that possible? Thanks for you help

It will be ok. Just turn the engine over by hand and maybe put some 2 stroke oil before turning over by hand to keep things lubed up and then start and watch the smoke screen!
