1980 RX7 Oil Metering Pump not supplying oil
I am the original owner of a car never driven in winter. It is stock except for a competition exhaust.
The last time driven it would not hold an idle without the petal depressed. There is no oil being delivered from the Oil Metering Pump so 2 stage oil/gas was added to the car which was then parked until this is sorted out by a mechanic. The carb was rebuilt and the car driven before this last issue appeared. My original Workshop Manual has just been located with all the prior investigation notes inside intact. I am located near the south end of Algonquin Park Ontario. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

It's simple to tell really...there's no oil coming from the line that feeds to the carb. I'm not sure if its the pump really but something causing it not to supply the expected oil. Maybe there's a blockage in the pump.

I would love to but I would have to tow it an hour to where I live...it was at my parents house since I moved. I want to make sure its up and running in order to take it to a body shop. I now have a nice double car garage to park it in when not driven. The car had a fuel system problem and it wouldn't hold an idle. Please see my post regarding the carburetor posted by Jutta in 2007. I am a little more settled with a job and relocating from the city now. I will forward the video to the mechanic I guess.

preparations are being made to have the engine of my 1980 RX7 overhauled, with carburetor included, by someone with RX7 expertise in Ontario.

what likely factors are you thinking it could be? I need the car in reliable running condition because I live in a remote area. I trust they will be checking it all out before it is released... thanks!

Any air leaks at the carb, stuck secondary throttle plates, hoses missing, clogged jets, etc. Even with a rebuilt carb, if the thing has been sitting, all bets are off. And of course there is the possibility the carb was not rebuilt correctly.
I'm not a carb person so I can't get more specific than that.
Has a compression test been performed to determine if the engine isn't making compression?

The engine is not being rebuilt right now....sorry for my confusion
. .
I gather that the question regarding the oil metering pump will be looked into now. More will be revealed after a compression test is done and the carb is looked after. I understood that there are Wankle specific tools required to test the rotary compression, so help from Engine Works in Muskoka is being used right now
. I hope to keep you all posted when I get more details.

i still highly doubt the pump isn't supplying oil, it is difficult to tell through the clear lines after they're old and yellowed if there is oil in them or not. have you done the test in the FSM to see if it is really not pushing anything?
My 1980 RX7 is back from the shop in Pickering. Its running great and very quiet. Gotta get the fan working after sitting so long. Also I am shopping around for a good bodyshop now. Any suggestions in Ontario?

turns out that Mazdees in Pickering has the car running extremely well for a reasonable cost. The engine did not need rebuilding and I heard nothing about the OMP being the issue. I think that a vacuum problem happened when an incorrect manifold for the exhaust system was installed and that the carb needed a proper rebuild. Anyway we would use their service again.

I just drove my car to Parry Sound for a quote from Project X. It turns out that they think a light restoration is in order now. Everything looks very good for a car this age. Its never seen winter and was not driven hard with 80K original miles. Visits to the Huntsville car meets are possible now. The car is appraised, insured and plated. We will see.
