1980 12A Rx7 Short Throw Shifter
My good friend has a nice Rx7 first gen, and he has been wanting a short shifter for a while. I am considering getting one for him as he is going away for college.
What will fitt his car? And where can I get one?
Its a 1980 12A.
Next:
Why does he want this, will this make the car better in anyway?
I have read that the original shifter for the 1980 is a pretty good shifter, is it worth shifting out.
Please exuse my english, not native, one of them girls from over seas.
Any tips will help.
Thanks

imo, its not worth changing. the SA's shifter is light and direct and unless you are planning on racing the car, the stock shifter is more than adequate. and to be honest, i don't remember seeing an aftermarket short throw shifter for the SA for quite some time...

they have short Throw shifters.
A Short Shifter is a Shifter who's Height has been changed.
A Short THROW Shifter changes the Pivot Point on the Shifter so the length of "throw" is Shorter.(it is a shorter distance from 1st to 2nd.and 3rd to 4th.etc.)
this is supposed to make shifts Quicker, but Honestly can make shifts a little More "notchy" and sometimes you can Mis-shift if you are not "feeling the shift".You have to Really Be Used to the Shifter in order to master it!.
I hope the infoo helps.I wnet through alot of Shifters and I finally settled on one called the C's Shifter( Japan Imported). It works for me,.nice feel.a bit notchy but it is my Style.Cheers STYX.
