1979 Idle issues
1979 Idle issues
I have a 1979 that recently went through an engine rebuild and now it wont idle. I had it done locally at a shop and they said it was because of the carburetor so it was towed to a carb shop. They say it is because it needs a new brainbox please does anyone have any suggestions or know where i can find this part? btw the car is completely stock. It does not idle at all as long as you keep on the gas the car stays on take your foot off the gas and it dies

Have you checked the fuel filter, timing, tuned the carb, new gas, running a bottle of seaform through? Do a search on idle issues and you will find a plethera of suggestions.
whats the mi. on the new engine? if it has not been broke in yet you may just need to raise the idle to like 1500 rpm for a few hundred mi.
a little more info about the car would help, and what do they mean by "brain box"? that sounds like slang for...... a carb?

@Rotospeed the engine has not been broken in yet it has a fresh rebuild. initially it had 180000. it doesnt have any mileage on the rebuild. By brainbox i believe hes referring to some type of ecu computer in the car. this one to be exact.

the only thing is i bought one and it was replaced. he said that it controls the idle soleniod and is not doing it so it wont idle. I'm so lost!
nope it wont even idle at 2500. bsically during start p you have to depress the gas pedal nd continue to or it will die
